Hello everyone!
This blog is intended to be a running – hopefully weekly or even more often – commentary on data science, data engineering, and data architecture. The topics should be educational and – for the most part – self contained enough to be immediately useful for either educators or other data scientists. Because I spent twenty years in the industry, a lot of my examples will come from K-12 education, but I try to branch out and talk about the other industries that I know as well.
In my everyday life, I’m a solution partner with a company based in Orange County, California, but I used to be a programmer, data scientist, and database administrator with a school district. Academically, I have a BS in Computer Technology and an MS in Analytics from Texas A&M. I’ve been passionate about data science ever since I discovered that working with data is what made programming fun.
In my spare time, I can often be found reading, working on crossword puzzles (the easy ones), or playing the occasional long-running video game – well, actually I spend most of my time entertaining a golden retrieve that doesn’t really understand why he’s not the center of attention at all times. I play tennis moderately well, play golf well enough that I don’t have to spend too much money on replacing lost balls, and play the bass trombone terribly. I’m a college football fan, an Astros fan, an Angels fan, and a Giants fan, in that order, and I catch the Texas Aggies whenever they are on TV in whatever sport or activity they happen to be participating in.
